My research interests range from high performance computing, programming language design, and numerical methods, to practical applications in fields such as fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, or optics.

Right now I am developing a high-performance software package for iSCAT microscopy called PiSCAT, and an experimental parallel programming language called Petalisp.

Marco Heisig studied Computational Engineering at FAU Erlangen from 2011 to 2017.  His master thesis on designing a parallel programming language was so successful that he was allowed to pursue it further for his PhD, under the supervision of Prof. Harald Köstler.  In 2023, he changed from FAU Erlangen to the group of Prof. Vahid Sandoghdar at the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light (MPL).
