The members of the board are charged with strengthening the connection between science and the public, as well as acting as intermediaries communicating the quality of the institute’s fundamental research to the outside world. The Board of Trustees consists of a constellation of renowned representatives of science, society and the economy. At this year’s meeting the board was informed about the subjects currently under research and the goings on of institute life, as well as being presented with the results of the evaluation for 2019-2022.  The board members were informed about the swift progress made on the construction of the new Max-Planck-Zentrum für Physik und Medizin (MPZPM). In the subsequent discussion, there was agreement that the new center, at the intersection of the scientific disciplines of physics and medicine, not only represents the pursuit of a completely new approach to interdisciplinary research, but also benefits Erlangen as a scientific hub and the broader Erlangen-Nuremberg metropolitan region considerably. The challenge now is to convey the immense significance of the center to the public.
