Networking our scientists and promoting young researchers are important prerequisites for our scientific excellence. As a research institute, we also attach great importance to presenting our topics in a way that is understandable to a wider audience. After all, public acceptance depends on the added value of basic research being explained in a comprehensible manner. The researchers at our institute also depend on people from outside the scientific community who are interested in their work and committed to supporting them.
For this reason, the non-profit association was founded on March 5, 2025. It is intended as a point of contact for friends and supporters of MPL who would like to support our institute actively. The purpose of the association is to further promote MPL’s research activities and public presence. In addition, the association expands financial support for the promotion of young scientists and the creation of an attractive working environment. The association is open to both individuals and companies.

Cutting-edge research requires a strong network. Former employees, doctoral candidates, and guests are just as welcome to become members of the MPL Support Association as external supporters and anyone who feels connected to us and our research as friends of MPL. You can support our research and our institute with your ideas and contributions, and we welcome financial support.

Membership fees
The annual membership fees for the ›Verein der Freunde und Ehemaligen des Max-Planck-Instituts für die Physik des Lichts e.V.‹ are as follows:
- For individuals: (minimum) €50
- For students: (minimum) €15
- For legal entities: (minimum) €1,000.
