On-chip modular hybrid plasmonics

In this talk I will discuss recent experimental progress in the development of modular, compact, and efficient on-chip hybrid plasmonic functionality. This approach can transform off-the-shelf silicon-on-insulator waveguides into efficient plasmonic nano-concentrators, which I use to demonstrate on-chip plasmonic second harmonic generation enhancement. Time permitting, I will also discuss novel compact dielectric-plasmonic coupler designs, and present new experiments which showcase the properties of plasmonic Eigenmodes near their non-Hermitian exceptional points.


Dr. Alessandro Tuniz is a University of Sydney Postdoctoral Fellow since 2017, and a Sydney Nano Institute Early-Career Ambassador since 2019. He was an Alexander von Humboldt Postdoctoral Fellow at the Leibniz Institute of Photonic Technology (IPHT-Jena) in 2015-2017. His research interests include plasmonics, nonlinear nanophotonics, metamaterials, hybrid photonic devices, terahertz optics, and sub-wavelength imaging, spanning experiments and modelling.
