Abstract:

High-precision laser spectroscopy of simple atomic and molecular systems is a powerful tool for testing fundamental physics. By comparing experimentally measured spectra with refined theoretical models, one can extract fundamental constants and put quantum electrodynamics theory to the test. In this presentation I will report progress on two experiments at LaserLaB Amsterdam: the vibrational and hyperfine spectroscopy of trapped hydrogen deuteride ions, and the extreme-ultraviolet spectroscopy of the 1S – 2S transition in singly-ionized helium.
