An introduction to conventional particle accelerators, and paths towards tomorrow's

Dr Francois Lemery, DESY, Hamburg
Seminar room, A.1.500

Abstract:

Particle accelerators have become invaluable tools for the exploration of fundamental science.  Modern state-of-the-art linear accelerators are radio frequency-powered and largely incorporate lasers into the machine infrastructure for beam production and manipulation.  In this seminar we provide an overview on conventional accelerators, introduce fundamental concepts, operating principles and describe current steps and progress toward realising next generation machines.
