The Bavarian Maximiliansorden for Science and the Arts is awarded in recognition of outstanding achievements in the fields of science and the and represents a particularly prestigious national honor. The award ceremony has taken place every two years since 1980 and German scientists and artists are preferably honored. Currently, 95 people wear the medal.
