After a welcome and a brief introduction to nanooptics, they quickly headed to the labs: one topic, for example, was how to visualize individual molecules using a special iSCAT microscope.

The event also highlighted the work that often makes research possible in the first place. This included activities in the mechanics or electronics workshop, where components are fabricated precisely according to the researchers’ specifications as well as in the buildings technology, which, among other things, ensures consistent conditions in the labs.

For many participants, the visit to the MPL provided a first glimpse into fundamental research, along with the opportunity to ask burning questions right on site. For the MPL, it’s a great chance to spark an interest in research among young talents at an early stage.
