Brief job description
Optomagnonics is an emerging field, in which light is coupled coherently to magnetic excitations in solid state systems. First experiments have demonstrated coupling in the optical regime very recently. This is an exciting line of research that brings together concepts of Condensed Matter and Quantum Optics, and is promising for applications in new quantum technologies. You will explore, both analytically and computationally, how to manipulate, store, and transfer quantum information in platforms involving optomagnonic systems.
You are enthusiastic about learning a new subject and have a good background in Condensed Matter and/or Quantum Optics. Familiarity with one of the following subjects can be helpful but is not required: spin waves, cold atoms, microwave-magnon coupling, optomechanics, spin-transfer torque, micromagnetics, Comsol. Programming skills are a plus.
You will work in a young and dynamical group in an excellent environment. The MPL is a world leading institution in basic research concerning light-matter interaction, and collaborations with both experimental and theory groups in the institute are possible and encouraged.
