Paper in Cell Reports

New paper from the group has been published in Cell Reports. We show that, unlike mammals, the regulatory interplay between fibroblasts and immune cells is required for axon regeneration after spinal cord injury in zebrafish. We describe the identification of a transient population of fibroblasts with a less differentiated, non-fibrotic profile that possess dual functions in modulating inflammation. These fibroblasts release pro-inflammatory and immunosuppressive cytokines to induce and subsequently resolve the acute inflammatory phase, thereby establishing a lesion microenvironment with regeneration-permissive mechanical properties.

Congratulations to the joint first authors Nora and Thomas!
