How to apply
for an IMPRS-PLL Master fellowship
You have to apply separately to:
Our IMPRS Physics from Light to Life (IMPRS-PLL) has two deadlines for MSc applications: January 15th and May 31st
We process applications from entering master’s students in two rounds with deadlines on January 15th and May 31st for the academic year starting in the following October.
With your application to IMPRS-PLL (physics of light or physics and medicine track) you apply for
- an IMPRS-PLL membership
- a monthly stipend of 992 Euro
You must apply simultaneously to IMPRS-PLL and to one of the collaborating master programs at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität (FAU) Erlangen-Nürnberg.

Prerequisite: profound interest in physics and biology/medicine

What documents do we need from you?
- Motivation letter
- CV
- University certificates and academic records
- Short abstract of Bachelor thesis
- Highschool certificate or comparable certificate which qualifies you for entering university
- Proof of proficiency in English (please check the FAU website for your respective Master's programme to see what requirements are necessary)
- A letter of recommendation (if available)
- Additional information e.g., certificates (if available)

Your admittance to one of the FAU Master programs is a pre-condition for an IMPRS master fellowship as the research school will only provide you with a stipend and a structured framework to your actual master studies at FAU.
Selection process

- application documents are evaluated by the selection committee
- short-listed candidates are invited to participate in an entrance exam
- candidates who pass the exam are invited for an interview
- candidates who succeed in the interview, are admitted into the IMPRS Physics from Light to Life (IMPRS-PLL)
