How to apply

for an IMPRS Master fellowship

You have to apply separately to:

Our IMPRS have two deadlines for MSc applications: January 15th and May 31st

We process applications from entering master’s students in two rounds with deadlines on January 15th and May 31st for the academic year starting in the following October.

With your application to IMPRS-PL or IMPRS-PM you apply for

  • an IMPRS membership
  • a monthly stipend of 992 Euro

You must apply simultaneously to either the IMPRS-PL or the IMPRS-PM and to one of the collaborating master programs at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität (FAU) Erlangen-Nürnberg.

Your admittance to one of the FAU Master programs is a pre-condition for an IMPRS master fellowship as the research school will only provide you with a stipend and a structured framework to your actual master studies at FAU.

Selection process

IMPRS-PL:

  • application documents are evaluated by the selection committee
  • short-listed candidates are invited to participate in an entrance exam
  • candidates who pass the exam are invited for an interview
  • candidates who succeed in the interview, are admitted into the IMPRS Physics of Light

IMPRS-PM:

  • application documents are evaluated by the selection committee
  • short-listed candidates are invited for an oral exam
  • candidates who succeed in the oral exam, are admitted into the IMPRS Physics and Medicine
