Neurodegenerative diseases cause progressive disability and impose an increasing burden; still, there is a lack of effective therapies and disease mechanisms are incompletely understood. Focusing on genetic and sporadic forms of Parkinson’s disease and motor neuron diseases, my goal is to uncover potential therapeutic pathways. To account for inter-individual differences in terms of a personalized medicine, we use patient-specific models, combining clinical data, imaging data, fluid biomarkers, and cellular models, i.e. patient derived fibroblast and induced pluripotent stem cell models.
