On May 7th and 8th our joint retreat of IMPRS Physics of Light and IMPRS Physics and Medicine took place at the hotel Stempferhof in Gößweinstein.
To break the ice, we started the event with Scientific Speed Dating. When everyone knew at least some of the names and research areas of their fellow students, more interactive sessions and networking activities took turns with invited talks and scientific discussions.
Prof. Leonhard Möckl (IMPRS-PL and IMPRS-PM PI) and Prof. Christopher Eichler (IMPRS-PL PI) provided an overview of their academic careers whereas IMPRS-PL Alumni Dr. Victor Distler told us about his work at the Carl Zeiss AG and about his choice of starting an industrial career. A huge thank you to all three invited speakers for the interesting and personal insights into their specific professional decisions and the subsequent working options those decisions entailed!
A hike through the wonderful Fränkische Schweiz topped off an event that did not only advance the IMPRS students' interdisciplinary knowledge but also brought about numerous starting points for further networking opportunities and scientific exchange.
