With the Herbert Walther Fellowship, the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light offers stipends to outstanding international guest scientists in the wider field of optics and quantum optics and to students who are interested to pursue a PhD at the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light.

The Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light offers stipends to outstanding international guest scientists in the wider field of optics and quantum optics. Suitable candidates must hold a PhD in one of the relevant disciplines in line with the ­research focus of the institute.
 

For your application you need to submit

• your curriculum vitae
• the list of your publications
• a research plan of up to 2 pages describing the state of the art, your project related prior work and the planned project (you need to specify the intended length of stay)
• a list of three potential referees

The stipend is tax-free under the conditions specified in §3, section 44 of the German Income Tax Act (EStG).
The monthly payment range starts at 2.500 Euro.

The stipend holder will send in a written report about the scientific results achieved during the research stay.
The stipend holder is responsible for purchasing a health insurance.

The stipend contract will be issued by the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light. All stipend regulations of the Max Planck Society apply.

The Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light offers stipends to people who are interested to pursue a PhD at MPL. ­Suitable candidates must hold a degree that could give access to doctoral studies.
 

For your application you need to submit

• a motivation letter
• your curriculum vitae
• a copy of your Master’s transcript

The stipend is tax-free under the conditions specified in §3, section 44 of the German Income Tax Act (EStG). The monthly ­payment is based on the PhD student salary. The stipend is granted for a maximum of 6 months.

The stipend contract will be issued by the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light. All stipend regulations of the Max Planck Society apply.
