New MPL Research Group
We are happy to announce that as of October 2018, Kanwarpal Singh started his work at MPL as head of a new Research Group. Kanwarpal, who previously worked as a research fellow at Harvard Medical School, focuses on developing high resolution miniaturized endoscopic devices for applications ranging from gastroenterology to oncology. Until now, the only way to perform histopathological analysis on diseased tissue was to take biopsies from the diseased area. The group aims to change this paradigm and perform optical biopsies at the site of the disease where the tissue is in its native state.
Their endoscopes operate in visible and near infrared spectrum range and are based on optical concepts such as confocal microscopy, two photon microscopy and optical coherence tomography.
Past work: Dr Singh was trained as a research fellow at Harvard Medical School. His research involved development of high resolution optical coherence tomography bench top systems and catheters for studying airways and cardiac system. He finished his PhD from Institut national de la recherche scientifique, Canada in collaboration with Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont, Montreal, Canada. During his PhD, he worked on development of diagnostic instruments for glaucoma.
