New paper in ACS Photonics: Photonic RAM in long-lasting sound waves
Cooling a highly nonlinear fiber to 4K, we extend the lifetime of phonons and achieve the coherent optoacoustic storage of signals for almost 140 ns. This is especially interesting for optical computing with short pulse widths and low latencies, e.g. in optical neural networks. The paper can be…
Group retreat in the mountains
In October we had the chance to go on a group retreat to Germany’s highest mountain, the Zugspitze! Besides being an absolute unique location, we had a full program around many topics, going from physics including our traditional Brillouin-Quiz to meta-topics like mental load, general lab…
Welcome to the group!
Very warm welcome to Justus Nölkensmeier, Luan Sliwa and Siddarth Singh! They are all studying at FAU and joined us for their Bachelor thesis and as student helpers, respectively.
New paper on the arxiv: photonic storage of QPSK signals
Scaling up: We demonstrate optoacoustic storage of quadrature phase-shift keying (QPKS) signals. In particular, we show the dependence of the optical phase on the phase-mismatch which can be used as an additional knob for signal processing. The paper can be found here.

Group Leaders at the Opening of the MPZPM
At the opening of the MPZPM, we took this happy picture of us group leaders at MPL.
Welcome to the group Linqiao Gan!
Linqiao Gan started her PhD with us and joins us from the Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics! She will continue our experimental work on orbital angular moment modes in the optical and acoustic domain.
