As of November 2018, Prof. Dr. Peter Hommelhoff, who holds the Chair of Laser Physics at the Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nuremberg, will become a Max Planck Fellow.

Since 2012, Prof. Hommelhoff and his group have been cooperating as an associated group with the Max Planck Institute for the Physics of Light:
For example, with Professor Russell's team to generate extremely short and perfectly controlled laser pulses with unprecedented properties. Another joint project is currently underway with Professor Sandoghdar's department to investigate light-matter coupling at the fundamental quantum level.
