The Möckl Group uses light to investigate and influence biological systems. Two key questions are in the focus of our research. The first one deals with a longstanding mystery in cell biology: How does the glycocalyx regulate, and how is it regulated by, cellular state? The second one is about novel therapeutic compounds: How can we use precise light activation of tailored substances to kill cancer cells at defined locations in the body without harming healthy tissue?
